Shifrin Hayworth Paid Survey Review: What’s the Catch?

editUpdated on: September 2, 2018 by anvitalis

Shifrin Hayworth claims to pay between $50 and $250 per study, and even more for medical professionals. Is this legit, or are they just trying to get you to sign up? What’s the catch?Shifrin Hayworth is a market research company that has been in business for 23 years.  They call themselves a Detroit company, but they are actually based in nearby Southfield, MI.

Their BBB file shows them as not being accredited.  They are also not rated, and they have no reviews and no complaints.  In this case, it is probably true that no news is good news.

Complaints are never a good thing, and positive reviews on BBB files are a rare breed.

What is Shifrin Hayworth?

It is probably easier to tell you what they are not.  They are not technically a paid survey company.  In fact, they are not even a paid online focus panel company.

This is because their studies are not conducted online.

The only thing you can really do online is sign up. The rest is in person or on the telephone.

That isn’t to say that can’t change, but for now, they do not conduct online studies.

I did review this sign-up process, but I did not sign up myself.  Why?  You must be a resident of Michigan.  I am not.

If you are not, you cannot sign up either.  If you are, however, read on, because you may like what you hear.

The application is lengthy and detailed.  You do not have to answer every question, but the more you answer, the more likely you are to get invited to participate in a study.

If you do live in Michigan, there is no limit to the number of people you can sign up in a household.  Sign up everyone!

Their privacy policy is solid, but if you are uncomfortable submitting information online, you can print the form and submit it by mail or in person.

What Kind of Studies Do They Conduct?

They conduct a ton of different types of studies, including but not limited to:

  • Taste testing
  • Focus groups
  • Radio listening groups
  • Mock juries
  • Mystery shopping
  • Product testing

Some of these are way different than what we normally see on survey sites.  Another difference is, you do not get to choose.  If you fit a study they are doing, they will call and invite you to join it.  There isn’t even a link on the site to see what is currently being offered.

How Much Can I Make?

The pay per study for this group is pretty amazing.  According to their website, most studies last from 30 minutes to 3 hours and pay between $50 and $250 depending on the client, length, and topic.

While this sounds great per study, don’t expect to get rich.  You may or may not get invited to a panel ever.  Most often these types of agencies try to spread the work around, and if you get invited more than once a year, you are doing great.

In short, you may make some extra cash, but you won’t make a living.

Medical Professionals

If you are a medical profession, you can register for the medical professional panel as well as the regular panel.

When you participate in medical professional studies, you can make from $100 to $400 for studies that last 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Is Shifrin Hayworth Legit or a Scam?

They are not a scam, at all.  They are completely legit.

No one is claiming they haven’t been paid, and they do not ever ask for payment or credit card information.

It depends.  If you live in Michigan, this is a definite must.  I wouldn’t have you depend on it for income, but it is a way to have fun and get paid some serious “fun money” in the process.

The only drawback I see is if you don’t live in Michigan, you are out of luck.  I would also like to see them run more for panelists through their website.

Right now, it is geared toward clients, and panelists can only use it to register.

It would be nice if panelists could see studies currently recruiting or even apply for specific studies through the site.

If you don’t live in Michigan, or even if you do and you are looking for an actual paid survey site, we recommend Swagbucks and Survey Junkie as great options.
